NORTHERN LIGHT

A user’s guide to Canadian cinema - classics, hits and misfits

Northern Light is a video essay series exploring the regions, histories, and aesthetics of Canadian cinema. A guided tour of landmark works and overlooked gems, from documentaries and features to experimental film, Northern Light connects these films to region, policy, and culture. With a lifelong passion for Canadian cinema, series host Stephen Broomer is mapping out the nation’s screen heritage, linking films, regions and institutions through archival research and original analyses, to better understand how Canada imagines itself on screen, and to bring these histories and essential works into focus for scholars, students, and cinephiles.
